Like in every game, so in Poker, in order to get into the game, you need to be completely aware of the protocols. If you do not know what means what, you cannot play at higher levels. And if you play, you will be going wrong.  Several expression are about making different card permutations, others says how much money you should put to the game and so on. The main term “ante” means small portion of a bet contributed by each player to start the pot at the beginning of a poker hand. Most hold’em games do not have an ante; they use “blinds” to get initial money into the pot. You have to put it before the beginning of the game.
